Class Profile

  • Ballet course
  • Ages 8-10 year olds
  • 10 students in the class 
  • 3 experienced with dance in formal setting.
  • 1 no prior dance experience.
  • 1 is handicapped.
  • 3 students who have taken part in a different type of dance (ie hip hop).
  • 2 have minimal experience with dance.
  • Multicultural students in this course due to location in a popular city. 

Environmental Assessment

  • Studio will be in an accessible part of the community that is connected to a local school. 
  • Caters to the students at the school and others outside. 
  • 2 paraprofessionals and 2 aides for the students who can help inside the classroom
  • Aide/ professional not in the class will help with any outside information
  • Bars in at least two of the rooms 
  • Spring floor to help the students and ensure safety when completing necessary jumps in ballet class
  • Seating area for families to wait on their student
  • Reception desk with waters for families and students
  • Windows that are high enough to not distract the students but big enough to bring in natural light. 
  • Calming colors in the studio to promote peaceful, mindfulness, and happiness.

Goals

  • To make students more comfortable and confident in their movement ability. 
  • Understand the basics of ballet. 
  • Learn how to work with others in a classroom setting. 
  • Become aware of personal growth and ability in movement. 
  • To explore locomotor and nolocomotor movements through ballet. 

Task- Analysis- Assessments- Strategies Chart

Through watching a video of a famous ballet dance, have students interpret intent and meaning of the video and dancer. 

Have the ballet students work on their own choreography that the teacher taught them to refine and complete artistic work with the addition of their own knowledge as well. 

The children can create their own ballet dance telling a famous children's story demonstrating that they understand how to convey meaning throigh presentation of art work.
